MARINE ENGINEERING SERVICE

FOR RELOCATION---

LOCATION
At present based in North Cornwall, this business is available for relocation. Since customers come from all over the country the exact location is of less importance than accessibility. New owners will need a workshop and a storage area for the very large stock of spare parts.

DESCRIPTION
This marine engineering business specialises in outboard motors and is well-known in the boating world as the place to obtain spare parts not easily available elsewhere. A regular advertisement is placed in a national boating magazine.
At present, the work is carried out in a well-fitted and fully equipped workshop of approx. 400sq ft., where engines are serviced, repaired, reconditioned or dismantled. Reconditioned spare parts are sent by mail order to customers all over the country, and also abroad.
At any time there are 15 to 20 reconditioned outboard engines available for sale, as well as 2 or 3 boats for sale. Further boats, located at the owners' premises, are offered for sale through brokerage.
There is an extensive stock of new spare parts, with the business holding the agency for many outboard manufacturers. It has also recently become a main dealer for Tohatsu. A significant stock of electrical spare parts for boat re-wiring reflects the present owner's electrical engineering background.
The enormous stock of parts is sorted and housed alongside the premises in two large containers (actually lorry bodies) and in the connecting lean-to storage areas. These containers can be moved, and are to be included in the sale if required, at no extra cost.
The owner is willing to offer relevant training to an interested buyer to facilitate the handover and removal of stock, to ensure that all necessary details are passed on.
Possible options for a new owner include dealing in new engines and equipment, and branching into chandlery as well. Also contracts for servicing or repair work could be sought with individual boat-owners or businesses, and a mobile service could be offered as in the past.

THE BUSINESS
The present owner now spends only a couple of hours a day on it because of other (non-competing) interests. We are informed that when the business was being run full-time and included the sale of new engines and equipment, the turnover was approaching £100,000.

EQUIPMENT
All workshop equipment is to be included in the sale. It includes grinders, Mig and Arc welders, hoist, jacks and stands, parts washer, outboard racks, power and hand tools. These include specialist tools for OMC, Merc/Mariner, Selva and Seagull. A more comprehensive list will form part of the contract of sale.

STOCK
The owner informs us that the stock of new spare parts is valued at between £40,000 and £50,000 retail, and the second-hand spare parts are estimated to be worth in the region of £80,000 to £100,000. However, all stock is included in the sale price.

AGENTS COMMENTS
An opportunity to take on a well-known specialist business with a good national - and international - reputation. Relocatable and with much potential, this will be of interest to engineers, or those with an interest in outboard motors, who would like to run their own business and are not afraid of spare parts!
